To Hem or not to Hem
Why have we chosen to take the time to hem something as simple as a reusable paper towel?
Reusable paper towels are meant to be used and abused daily. If they fall apart, they lose their usefulness and become less sustainable.
Most reusable paper towels are serged. This is a type of finishing where multiple threads are sewn over the edge of the fabric to prevent the fabric from unweaving. Serging is the preferred choice of finishing among manufacturers because it is fast and easy. However, over time the fabric edges do start to unravel if the serging is not extremely tight. This can lead to the cloth looking worn and frayed.
We chose to hem the edges to ensure that they will remain looking great over time and will never fray. This extra step means our reusable paper towels will stand the test of time and abuse from daily use. Hemming extends HANDECLOTH's sustainability and their value to you wash after wash.
